| The windows are installed. This took a lot longer than I imagined because the windows no longer fit into the casings!
My best guess is that too much paint built up on the frames and made them too thick. I ended up doing a lot of
sanding and filing and re-touching of the paint job before they were ready to be put into place. I just love how the windows start tying in everything. The color is Forest Green (I picked it myself!) with a Dark Burnt Umber wash over it. |
|
| Here you see the thatch tie-downs completed (at the top of the roof line). I enjoyed this process very much, it was reasonably easy to do with nice results. | |
| The support beams are in and I thought they were deserving of their own picture. They add a lot to the appearance
of the cottage as well as stabilize the second floor. The underside has been scored and stained as well (but not
sprayed with Deft for a glossy shine) to add a touch of realism. Rik and others said no one would see the underside
unless they stuck their head inside of the house - so here you go! A view of the beams from the other side. |
|
| Here is a color chart of the major colors by Delta Ceremcoat that we used in class, primarily in washes. Brown
Iron Oxide, Tangerine and Hippo Grey (bricks), Dark Burnt Umber (washes on almost everything) Raw Linen (mortar
color), Burnt Umber, Forest Green (windows), Lichen Grey (part of the wash for the outside of the cottage) and
Trail Tan. I also used Black and White as well, usually as part of washes or to lighten or darken colors. I will probably update this picture, as I'm missing two of the colors and there has to be an easier way to view these as well. I just ran out of sunlight today to take any more pictures! |
Still to complete: Electrical and Lighting (some great miniature lights from Ray Storey Lighting to install!), Landscaping and Flowers.
If you would like to be notified via email when I finally do finish my cottage, drop me an email and I'll let you know!
